We used Jamestown Kitchens to remodel three bathroom cabinets and counter tops. The “design consultant’ give the impression that you are getting custom cabinets, but really they are the company’s stock items. They actually got the job initially because we were assured that we could get four drawer cabinets in the master bath. When the drawings were sent for review, there were only three drawers and doors, rather than drawers in the other two bathrooms. The doors were corrected, but we were informed that they did not make four drawer cabinets at all. . By this time we had put forth a deposit, so we continued with Jamestown. When installed, there were originally no backs on the master cabinets – they looked very cheap and flimsy. We insisted that backs be place on the cabinets because we ordered cabinets – not three sides. This was done after we brought it to their attention and insisted. Jamestown was to schedule all the subs (plumber, electrician, counter top manufacturer, etc). There were problems with all three – the electrician was initially not scheduled, the price was not correct for the plumber for the reinstall (even though we questioned the price at least 5 times before signing the paperwork) and the countertops were late with pieces were missing, necessitating two trips. The carpenter/installer was at best average and very, very slow. The lack of electrician was problematic because the carpenter managed to cut two main wires while framing the medicine cabinets – so we had no electric in the bathrooms. He also broke through the drywall in the hall and damaged a wall mounted mirror, necessitating some remedial work. To Jamestown’s credit, they took care of the extra electrician bill for the cut wires and the plumber’s reinstall bill. While the work was relatively adequate, it took longer than expected for completion as people didn’t come every day to work and the counter tops were late. Moving the project along in the right direction and making sure the subs were scheduled took a lot of phone time on our part and a much larger amount of follow-up than expected. If you use Jamestown, they will pay for errors created by their workers, but the cabinets are really stock (not custom as we were led to believe), the carpenter is fair at best and you be required to do a lot of extra communication and follow-up to ensure the subs are timely.

My elderly, disabled brother was the actual customer of Jamestown Kitchens who, after 2 months, are just now completing the $10,000+ replacement of his kitchen cabinets and counter tops, and the addition of some cabinets in his family room. I feel qualified to review their performance because I was present for much of the job and spoke with him by phone daily when I was not there. I should begin by saying that he was very pleased with the performance and responsiveness of Carol and Donny throughout the renovation period. What was unacceptable was the failure of Jamestown to meet the promised deadlines, failure to accept responsibility for mistakes, and their total indifference to the inconvenience he suffered for being a full month without a kitchen sink and the use of his dishwasher. When they finally did install a kitchen sink other than the one he had specified a month ago in a change order, they told him he could either accept the one they provided or go another month without a sink and the dishwasher and be subject to significant additional charges. He also experienced electrical problems after the dishwasher and garbage disposal were reconnected -- which they said were outside the scope of their work. My brother is too nice a guy to complain directly about the way they treated him, but I know he would not hire them again -- and neither would I.
